Default Scripts or build from scratch?

Do you use scripts or build from scratch?
I've personally have done both. Scripts are easy to do and are pretty straightforward. They do however take time to customize it enough to make it look unique. Building from scratch can take an infinite amount of time. I know from experience. Alot of time but sometimes the results are worth it.

Really good question JHub! I am personally really fussy with programming and find that most scripts out there don't accommodate the individual. They just don't seem to have everything that I want and I usually start modifying them. Sometimes they are so modified that I end up with no code from the original! For example I run a small web hosting company and instead of using a control panel premade, I coded it myself! It was two years in the making but it does exactly what i want and believe it is superior to any other..

Although that is a bit harder to do these days and I guess that thinking is a bit ancient nowadays.. I think in the last few years scripts have gone from small time hobbies to professional outfits. Take for example Joomla, wordpress, vbulletin, etc they are all extremely feature packed and the graphics are excellent, why change that.. I couldn’t even think of what to change in them, they just seem to have everything covered. Suits me

Well it all depends upon the needs and budget. If on tight budget one can hire a programmer that can make a script (depending upon the typr of script) and get it custom made according to their requirements keeping in mind the future upgrades.

But then there are scripts like vBulletin, joomla, wordpress and amny more which u can get customized easily according to your needs and lot of help available.
